I asked the reason, the reply is : it is economic to save one pair of flange in 16" line, and unscrewed the instrument tubing during shifting the spectacle position.

Does above make sense?

thanks.

Given the lack of information you have given us the answer to this question is No!

An Orifice Flange and Orifice Plate along with the other instruments in the total "Loop" are there to do a specific and important job. That job could be compromised if the Pressure Taps are not in the proper relationship to the Orifice Plate.
Do you have the approval of the Process Engineer and the Instrument Engineer?
I would be more inclined to look upstream or downstream for the next natural flanged joint and place the Spec Blind there. Otherwise I would bite the bullet and add the extra set of flanges.

thanks Jop!

I have another question needs your suggestion: Could I put PI, TI within orifice meter upstream and downstream straight pipe? for example, upstream straight pipe needs 5D, could I put PI or TI in 4D? I don't think these indicators would cause turbulence to the orifice. but some experienced piper insist putting nothing within 5D.

What's your opinion?

sorry, TI or TW causes turbulence, but PI does not.

1. This question is a different subject and should be a different post.

2 Except for only certain situations I do not allow anything upstream for 20 diameters and nothing downstream for 5 diameters.
