Filed weld on suction and discharge of rotating equipment was created by marck1783
Dear all,
What do you think about 3 field welds on suction and discharge on every piece of rotating equipment?
The 3 field welds are intended to avoided any breaks on rotating equipment nozzle since can give to mechanical subcontractor 3 adjustment in order to erect correctly the line without any additional loads/stress on nozzle pumps.
But this choice, in your opinion, increase too much the cost or can be a solution to avoid any break on pump nozzle? Since a field weld is more costly than a weld made in the pipe fab shop (factory).
Your opinion is really appreciated.
Best regards

The issue here is not whether a pipe butt weld is cheaper, made in the pipe fab shop or the field.
The issue is whether one or two extra pipe welds are cheaper or more expensive than replacing the pump case during plant start-up. Will the complete Pump need to be returned to the Manufacturers facility? Where is the plant? Where is the Pump manufacturer? What is the material of the Pump Case? How big is the Pump Case? What is the cost of shipping? Will there be any import permits (time delays) or duties (costs)?
My opinion is use the three Field Welds.
