The minimum length is normally 500mm. This is dependent on the steps made to transition between the thin wall underground pipelines steel to the B31.3 refinery material used on the S bends. Assuming that you are inquiring about the TP prior to a pigging station. Not being sarcastic as we have so many delicate readers, but don’t they have engineers where you work?

Both Ollie and Buggernuts have good suggestions but perhaps aubajwa could provide additional information about the application. i.e. is the transition before or after a pump, what type of material is being conveyed..... so on.

Here's something I've seen used in determining the length of reducing fittings in FRP.

L = 2.5 x (Dia Large Side) - (Dia Small Side)

so...a 600mm x 450mm transition would be

2.5 x 150

= 375

I've always used 600mm long transition pieces. One end matches the wall thickness of the pipeline i.e. 6.78mm, and the other end matches the wall thickness of the riser piping i.e. sch.40. The transition piece material matches the pipeline. I believe and correct me if I'm wrong but, the rule of thumb when to use a transition piece is when the wall thickness of the two ends is greater than 3.2mm you use one.
