Plate And Frame Exch. was created by ashokaa
Please explain how do we remove the Plates in Plate and frame Exchanger.
I need to provide the space for maintenance. I want to know, are we needed to provide space for throughout the overall length of exchanger or only near to plates. I have never seen these exchangers in front of me. I seen only in drawings (there is no detail, only overall dimensions).

I am expecting some usefull information from you about Plate And Frame Exchangers.

This kind of exchanger does have specific space requirements for maintenance. You asked the following questions:
- How do we remove the Plates in Plate and frame Exchanger?
The plates are removed from the normal P&F exchanger by shutting down the exchanger, loosening the bolts, sliding the plates apart then removing them from the frame.
- Do I need to provide the space for maintenance?
Yes! You need to keep one side of the P&F exchanger completely free for the removal of the plates. The width of the free space shall be the full width of the plate (or exchanger).
- Do we need to provide space throughout the overall length of exchanger or only near to plates?
Yes! The length of the free space shall be the length of the exchanger.

- I have never seen these exchangers in front of me. I seen only in drawings (there is no detail, only overall dimensions).
You can go to this website to see a picture and and read about Plate and Frame Exchangers.

Thanks Mr. Jop,

Yes I understand, still I have one question,

Is possible to take out the plates from directly from side of exchanger? Or we have to remove the plates through carrying bar (located top side of the plates)? It means we have to remove the support column first then we will remove the pleats through carrying bar.

You asked:

Depending on the actual Brand and model of P&F exchanger I would say , Yes! you remove the plates directly from the side.
- Or we have to remove the plates through carrying bar (located top side of the plates)?
No! you would not remove the plates "through" the carrying bar.
- It means we have to remove the support column first then we will remove the pleats through carrying bar.
No, you would not remove the support column.

We have used several PHE in our plant - supplied by APV and Alfa Laval. More than half of our PHE (monster size)are made of titanium plate. They're pretty efficient HX but requires constant cleaning. We used to do the cleaning ourselves but it eats a lot of our time and resources. If you plan to use it, make sure you make provision to store at least some few gaskets and a plate and then plan your cleaning cycle early.
