chanock ...To be honest I can't, we don't normally get into situations where we have to post heat treat piping systems. BUT I can point you to a place that could probably answer your questions. Try looking at this link. These guys do heat treating all the time, and are semi near your location. Good Luck!

the ASME 31.8-2003 don't say nothing about repair overlap with WPHT. do you would show me some codes about overlaps?

This problem is because the client needs the technically support for approve it.

thanks

Hi chanock

As far as I know, the ASME codes B31.8 (and B31.3, B31.4) do not limit the minimum distance between welds. However, I have seen such requirement in many project specifications.

With regard to 11echo's advice, it's a common practice that the welds do not meet the minimum distance or even overlapped should be PWHT'ed. I think the minimum distance between welds is to avoid the overlapping of the HAZ and PWHT relieves the residue stresses in the HAZ.

If the piping falls under the scope of B31 and its for new construction - i dont think that the proposed changes made are allowed under the rules. Note that fittings and components are all standards and modifying them - well it no longer qualify as a standard.

Replied by juan1977 on topic and there are several posting
and there are several posting made related to the overlapping of the HAZ and reference made to B31 in connection with it - and in a lot of cases they're not what the Piping Code says.

i just hope that people are aware how narrow is the HAZ band and how difficult is the fitup going to be if the distance between weld joints for large bore fitting is close to zero. Bends, fittings and concentrated loads are areas where the stress are normally high - and im talking about piping components/parts that have not been modified.
