chanock ...That's 3 inches, NOT 3 degrees. “BUT IF” you did trim a fitting where the attachment welds were LESS then 3 inches, you could do a post heat treat on it. This would normalize the steel in that area, thus elimination the potential of being brittle in that area because of overlapping heat affected zones.
You COULD go down to 2.865 degrees and STILL maintain that 3 inch min. between welds. At that angle I think I might look at just getting a pre-fabed pipe bend, and eliminate all the hassle. My $0.02 anyway, Good Luck!

Jop ...I'd "guess" you wouldn't be able to use a one weld miter here. This is a 3R elbow, I'm guessing pigging here. Not sure a pig could make it thru a one weld miter, unless it's a "poly-pig"?

From the 3D bend, I guess this is a pigable pipeline, therefore the standard could be ASME B31.4 or B31.8.

Should a 3 degree cold bent be considered for this application ?

Chanock,
It would have been nice to have had this latest information at the start.

The code: B31.8
Pressure:25600 psi
Temperature: 140 f
Service: nitrogen gas

It would have prevented me (and maybe others) from giving wrong answers.
