Hi All,
we need to buy 6m 3/4" Sch 160 A106 grade B pipe for modification of a spool in the project. In the material certificate it has stated that it is not hydrostatically tested, but eddy current examination in lieu of hydrostatic test is done and found acceptable. But the client quality coordinator states that the material is unacceptable as it is not hydrotested.

Is it correct. The spool needs to be hydrotested after fabrication so can we use the material.Does every pipe is come after hydrotesting. Is there a ASTM specification which allows use of pipe which is not hydrotested. Can any one please clarify. Thanks in advance.

Its not the ASTM but rather the ASME B31 that governs the design, fab, test and installation of piping.

Now to your question if fabricated piping constructed to B31 require hydro - the answer will depend on the application. If its for nonhazardous service and service temp and pressure is within the 150 class range, it wont be difficult to justify it specially for small bore piping.
