Grades WPB & WCB was created by saqib
Can anybody tell me about ASTM A-234 Garde WPB. Patricular about WPB. Whats its abbreviation?
And also about ASTM A-216 Grade WCB. Same particular about WCB.
As I know these materials are used for fittings and valves respectively, but Iam not understanding about these grades WPb & WCB.

ASTM A-234 Grade WPB -
The WPB means"
that the minimum Tensile strength, ksi (MPa) = 60-85 (415-655)
and the Minimum yield strength, ksi (MPa) = 35 (240)
ASTM A-216 Grade WCB -
The WCB means:
that the minimum Tensile strength, ksi (MPa) = 70-95 (485-585)
and the Minimum yield strength, ksi (MPa) = 36 (250)
If you are a Piping Materials Engineer then this is of importance to you. If you are a Pipe Stress Engineer this might make a difference to you. However, if you are a Piping Designer then it should not make much difference in what you do.

As far as I know they are just letter designations assigned to these standards?

I was in the liberary so I pulled out ASTM Section 1, Iron and Steel Products. A216 CS casting comes in three grades WCA, WCB and WCC. Each grade has its own unique characteristics.

WCB is specified for cast material for example as valve body.... WPB is spedified for wrought materials as pipe fittings.
