ESDV for HCl service was created by gpsvn
This is another ESDV I am working on. It's 14" 300#, and once in a while, HCl acid will be used to clean the system.

The piping is CS with some corrosion allowance at one end, the other end is GRE (funny huh).

I am thinking of a CS valve body, wetted parts are cladded with acid resistance materials. Metal seats are normally specified for ESDV in my company and most of the are carbide tungsten coated stainless steels. I am not sure if this is a good choice for my valve as I could not find reference to carbide tungsten acid resistance properties. One of the option could be bare SS 316 for ball and something for the seats to avoid galling.

Appreciate your inputs / advice.

gpsvn, if you are requiring carbide tungsten is because you have a metal-metal ball seat in your ESDV. Probably you have carbide tungsten in the ball and in the seat, and if you use carbide tungsten only in the seat and bare 316ss in the ball you are going to have the galling there. So, I think that 316 is ok for seat and ball but if you are going to use a metal-metal seat you have to use carbide tungsten in both sides.

hernan.rizza, if I understand you correctly, you suggest to use tungsten carbide coated SS316 ball and seats.

Is this material acid resistance ? HCl in particular ?

Thank you,

Yes. And the use of 316 is going to be subjcet to the mechanical requirements, for example, forget that material for an API10000 valve.
