Pipe Spec was created by Sachin
Temp. & Pr. Conditions of Piping Material Spec sometimes depends on actual Pr. & Temp. conditions, secondly on flange Pr.& Temp. rating as decided by ANSI B 16.5 /16.47 according to Group Material & lastly on category of fluid used. Out of these three which one to use while developing spec & why? Give other criterion if any.(Site Location- U.S.Refinery)

Our mutual friend Jop specifically asked that I register here and respond to your inquiry. I highly recommend utilizing the ASME B16.5 flange ratings to design systems for full flange rating. These ratings also fall inline with B16.34 ratings, so specifying valves is easier too. This establishes a clear set of pressure and temperature conditions for system design. A very important item to consider is the pressure stress (P/S) ratio, which is part of the pipe wall thickness calc. By matching the flange pressure at its corresponding temperature to the pipe's allowable stress at the same temperature, you can determine the highest P/S ratio to use in your wall calc. This will enable you to do a single wall calc. for each pressure class that will encompass all pressure and temperature combinations for the flange rating. I can email you examples offline that would better explain this.

To add to Lucieneng mail Sachin process criteria, nature of fluid are the main criteria for determining spec. You have to use the design pressure to determine rating from ASME B 16.5. So long story short you need all of the criteria to make a spec.
