Clarification required for Basic design?. was created by SHUNMUGAPRIYAN
Dear All,

Please explain the following fundamental design requirement,

1] Why the "Flow meter" line upstream & downstream area we are using reducer to reduce the pipe size?.
2] Some of the drawing its shown flow meter have one isolated orifice plate, what is the reason?.

Kindly share your valuable answers.

Warm regards,

1] An Orifice run should (normally) be full line size with a minimum of 20 diameters straight run upstream of the Orifice plate and a minimum of 5 diameters downstream of the Orifice plate.
Please note I included the word "normally" in the description. There are sometimes exceptions but they are difficult to define in mere words.
Why are you using reducers?

2] An Orifice type Flow Meter normally has one set of orifices flanges (set = two flanges), two gaskets and one Orifice Plate. External to the Meter run pipe and the orifice flange set there are piping leads, valves, instrumentation equipment such as transmitters, local indicators and tubing.
Why are you questioning the existence of only one orifice Plate?
