AutoRickshaws are an integral part of urban Indian life and I might dare say its popular too since it comes cheaper than Cabs. But I suppose it may not even be known in some of the developed countries where other members of this forum live. There is uncanny similarity to the way both these work. Here are some of the typical parallels with humorous intent.

1. If you are traveling from Point A to Point B in a rickshaw then be sure that the fare will differ each time irrespective of other things being constant.

2. The route followed will be the most commonly followed one. The same happens here as well. Some may argue that it might be the "ONLY" route or the "BEST" route. Nobody really knows so nobody argues out of the fear that he will be proven wrong or taken to the task.

3. You can hire a rickshaw on the busiest routes anytime but if its new route and nobody has gone there then probably its risky. The cost may be higher.

4. Costs stabilize once the route becomes popular and many rickshaws start plying.

5. Fares only increase over a period of time.

6. It may carry more men than allowed. In the end it adds to the cost.

7. At the odd hour, the chances of getting a rickshaw are close to nill.

8. Never argue with Rick-man over fare. You do not know what amount the next one will charge!

9. The good rickshaw-man driver will show you the tariff card and meter.
