"Credit crisis" Vs Piping Jobs was created by 6d bend
Hello everybody,

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this topic, but here I go anyway!

I'm interested to know how the current credit crisis / economic downturn / global recession is affecting piping design where you are.

Here in Ireland, there is a massive slowdown, some might say the industry is grinding to a halt.

This appears to be caused by many projects being put on hold due, in part, to problems raising cash for these jobs.

What is the outlook where you are?
Is the demand for pipers still there?
Are rates dropping?

This is the question, this may be a problem, let's talk about it.

We're seeing exactly the same thing in South Africa. Mineral, chemical and water plants have ground to a halt with all project work decisions being put on hold 'til April '09.

The petro-chem guts still have some work, but only as follow-on

All is well in the Mining/Metals & Chemical industry in Canada, so far. A lot of my friends who are still in Oil & Gas have had their contacts pulled or are about too, so they're looking for work.

Reality is a trigger word and we're quickly losing touch...

A well known, world wide Engineering company has just laid off / given notice to ALL it's staff in Dublin, and are pulling out of Ireland at the end of the year.

Now I need to look for a job!

Seems to be quite busy here in Paris.

Some big Nuclear Projects in the pipeline (or should that be the Reactor??), big on / offshore project for Russia, and a couple of FPSO's in the offing!

Also the £ to the € exchange rate is good (assuming you are paid in Euro!)
