Rules based Pipe design was created by dwolfe
Something I've been wondering about. Has anyone run into software that checks the piping design? I only have experience using CADWorx, and I was thinking about writing something to check pipelines for low points/pooling areas and flag the user if any are found.

For example, if a pipe is on a North/South rack at 10' above grade, jumps down to an east/west rack at 8'6" above grade, runs 20' and then jumps back UP to a north/south rack 10' above grade, I think the software should be able to flag that.

You first need to sit down and think about and make a list of all the rules just how the computer will identify the low point you have described.

What is the pipe is not running North/South?
What if the rack is not at 10 feet?
What if the drop is not 1'-6"?
What if the direction is not East/West?
What if the distance is not 20'?
What if the rise is not back to 10'?

The human brain may not be the fastest computer but it is by far more versatile. When the eye of a trained and experienced designer looks at the routing you have described his or her brain will answer the question in the blink if an eye.
