o-let connection - bad practice??? was created by ltuttle
I am being asked (by my boss) to put a S-O-L onto an ecc reducer on the flat side. I personally have never done this. I don't think it is good connection or practice but I was wondering if anybody has ever done this before?

yes I have done this many times. No problem.
Rational.
An Eccentric Reducer is just a piece of pipe that changes size from one end to the other. When we attach a Socket-O-Let to the "flat" side, it is no different than when we attach the SOL to straight pipe. Just look at the attachment area don't look at the whole fitting.
Think about it.

Thanks for replying. But when you look at the flat side of the ecc red there is actually a little taper on the bottom so it actually isn't completely flat except very near the weld.

I have over 45 years of experience.
Some of my years were as the Engineering Manager in a Pipe Fabrication shop.
It doesn't matter how many years experience your boss has, he is your boss.
If I was your boss I would tell you to "DO" it and move on, you are wasting time.
