The Society of Piping Engineers and Designers (SPED) will hold its 31st Annual General Business Meeting (AGBM) and 4th Annual Corporate Member Showcase (CMS) on Thursday, October 27th. This year, the AGBM/CMS will be held in conjunction with nine Technical Briefs Thursday and Friday, October 27-28th, 2011.
All of the events will be held at the Houston Marriott Energy Corridor in Houston, Texas.
New this year, the SPED Technical Briefs are nine compact, three-hour tutorials designed to update pipers on critical topics.
The nine topics are Instrumentation, P&IDs, Valves for Pipers, Fabrication, Hangers and Supports, Pressure Vessels, Pipe Stress, Centrifugal Pumps, Pipe Stress and Inspectability.
The SPED Technical Briefs will be delivered by Industry experts on Thursday and will continue through Friday.
On Friday, Executive Director, Dr. William G. Beazley will conduct a Professional Piping Designer (PPD) Certification Level III Review and Exam. PPD Certification is an industry standard piping credential among Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) firms in the U.S. and worldwide.
PPD Certification is a 3rd party confirmation of Piping Designers’ skill levels and helps employers and their clients assess candidates for employment.
The Technical Briefs and PPD Level III Certification Review and Exam are in direct response to Industry’s need for highly trained Piping Designers.
The 4th Annual CMS and reception will be held Thursday evening, followed by the 31ST AGBM.
Only SPED Corporate Members are invited to participate in the Corporate Member Showcase. Prior to this event, a reception will be held for senior Pipers who are members of the PPD Level IV Advisory Committee (PPDAC). PPD Level IV Pipers have met specific criteria for Certification and have been approved by the SPED Board of Directors.
The PPDAC is charged with advancing the PPD Program and its criteria for certification.
All of the events are designed to educate Pipers and allow them to network with other Pipers, Managers and Industry Experts.
This annual event is a unique gathering of practicing piping professionals to promote excellence in piping design.
