How to choose pipeline material ?? was created by H.H.A
Dear Engs,
I have line that transfer Asphalt (Bitumen), the designing company chose the material of line to be API 5L X52.....
Information:
Temp.: 180 C
Pressure: 145 PSI
Fluid: Asphalt
Pipe Diameter: 10''
Thickness: 0.365''
Line considered under: B31.3 and B31.4
Now,,
one of the engineers told me that X52 is not suitable for Asphalt (at all) ??? he consider that company make a big mistake by choosing X52 !!
AND suggest to use A335 instead of X52,, as A335 contains molybdenum and this protect the line from cracks ??
BUT,,
As I know that A335 is used for High pressure and temperature steam,, Eg. (500 C, 100 Bar), and is extra more expensive than X52 !!
So I refer to my references and some standards, and get more confused as I didn't find anything that tell me if he is "TRUE" or "WRONG",, or what the application of X52,, or how to select specific material of pipeline ?
Waiting for your help .....
