Expansion joint Vs Expansion Loop was created by Ectasy
Hey, How we will decide whether to go for Expansion joint or Expansion Loop, If our piping System require Flexibility . What would be the criteria ?

The criteria would include:
Safety - This is always first. A Joint is more prone or susceptible to failure than a Loop.
Space - A loop takes more space but the joint requires wider spacing between lines.
Reliability - A loop is less likely to fail.
Maintenance - A Loop takes no more maintenance than any other pipe.
Cost - Depending on the size, material and type the initial cost of a joint could be more costly than a Loop.
Anchors and guides - Joints and Loops both require the same amount of each.
Force on Anchor points - They are equal.
Client preference - Some Clients may have an objection to Joints.

From purely the piping layout designers point of view the first choice should be the Loop, the last choice would be the Joint.
